Regis Philbin Bypass Surgery
Regis announced on Monday's "Live with Regis and Kelly" that he will be
having bypass surgery this week.
Regis is 76 years old and told co-host, Kelly Ripa, that he has been having
chest pains and shortness of breathe. His doctors recommended he
have bypass surgery after running several tests.
Kelly, playfully volunteered to be his sponge bath nurse and that many of
her family members have had the operation and that he would be in better
health after having the surgery.
Fourteen years ago, Regis had angioplasty to unclog one of the arteries in
his heart.
Regis said he is looking forward to getting it behind him and moving on
with his life.
Regis is expected to be off the show for at least five weeks, with a variety of
co-hosts filling in while he is away.
